Highways England: Major Programmes and Projects
Highways England is a UK government company charged with operating, maintaining and improving England’ s motorways and major A roads. Formerly the Highways Agency, they became a government company in April 2015. The UK government has committed to improving the UK road network covering the Smart Motorways, Complex Infrastructure and Regional Infrastructure Programmes. This investment is to reduce the impact of congestion on roads and motorways, which is currently estimated to cost the UK economy £9bn per year. In order to manage and accelerate delivery of such complex programmes of work, Highways England project information, and tendered through the UK government’ s Digital Marketplace and G Cloud.
