Hatch was tasked with upgrading a coal transfer chute prone to blockages caused by sticky, high-moisture material. Using Altair EDEM BulkSim, engineers simulated real material behavior under various flow rates and moisture conditions. Calibrated DEM models enabled accurate prediction of buildup, wear, and throughput. Virtual testing led to a redesigned transfer point with improved flow control, reduced wear, and higher reliability. The new design was validated before fabrication, minimizing risk during commissioning. Simulation helped Hatch deliver a more robust solution that improved plant performance, uptime, and operational confidence for its mining client.
