CONCRETE, MANY WAYS The Harrisburg University of Science and Technology’s purpose is to “offer innovative academic and research programs in science and technology. ” When building their Academic Center, it seemed logical to use architecture that would reflect their innovative approach. Because precast concrete panels can be fabricated in endless ways to meet specific design needs, the design team chose them to create a building that has become an icon on the Harrisburg skyline. 01. Jointless Monolithic Towers. Large precast monoliths provide visual support for the roof structure, plus they house the building’s core elements. 02. Multi-Purpose. Precast concrete panels enclose the seven-story parking structure, which is tucked in between the ground floor and the academic floors. T
