INTRODUCTION The GX deck is a gas processing module built for the Exxon East Area Gas field, offshore Nigeria. The platform was fabricated at the construction quay of HHI in Ulsan, South Korea. The unit had to be skidded from the quay on to the deck of the vessel. Four skid beams were used on the quay and the vessel, connected by link beams. Strand jacks were used to pull the module on board. From the moment the first skid shoes came on board until the deck was in position took just over 8 hrs. After completion of the seafastening the vessel started her voyage to the East Area gas field. At location the topside was installed by a float-over method onto a pre-installed jacket.
