Lee Valley Regional Park Authority has many sites in its care, ranging from formal gardens to marshlands and traditionally they purchased soft wood picnic tables. However, as a result of vandalism, they found that timber slats were often covered with grafiti, fire damaged or dismantled. The grafiti seeped into the wood, and preserving and maintaining the wood each season was very costly and ineffective. As a result, they decided to replace many of their picnic tables.
