Case Study
Drilled Six Wells Which Required Repeated Trips In The Lateral Section Due To Bit Impact Damage.
Summary An operator named Aspenleaf Energy, drilling in the Swan Hills area of Alberta, Canada had drilled six wells which required repeated trips in the lateral section due to bit impact damage. The formation was homogenous and was not deemed to be the cause of the bit damage. Aspenleaf agreed to shelve a c o mpetit or ’ s Friction-Reduction Tools (FRTs) and attempt to drill a well with three of Impulse Downhole Tools ’ ActiPulse FRTs in the drill string. The well was drilled from landing point to TD without any trips – the first to date. Two subsequent wells were drilled using ActiPulse technology, and Aspenleaf achieved faster-drilled laterals, reduced trips, and reduced bit damage. This Case Study is a summary of the findings of the multi-well comparison. Drilling Time Comparison The c
