Demonstrating a Novel Separate Centrate Deammonification Process: 26th Ward

Demonstrating a Novel Separate Centrate Deammonification Process: 26th Ward Client: NYCDEP Location: Brooklyn NY Hazen and Sawyer, in collaboration with NYCDEP, NYSERDA, Manhattan College and Columbia University, developed and piloted an innovative approach for applying deammonication at the 26th Ward facility. This novel approach is referred to as separate centrate deammonication (SCAD). The SCAD approach exploits the natural predisposition of the mixed culture community to perform nitrication, denitrication and anaerobic ammonia oxidation to achieve cost-eective nitrogen removal.Project Outcomes and Benefits The research team demonstrated that the SCAD process can achieve greater than 60% TIN removal while reducing aeration (57% reduction), alkalinity (50% reduction) and supplemen
