Clifford Devlin was awarded an enabling works package to facilitate the refurbishment and redevel- opment by GLH Hotels to convert the Cumberland Hotel into London's first Hard Rock Hotel. To enable the Hotel's entrance and reception to remain live throughout, the project was conducted in two stages. The Hotel Reception was segregated from the live works in the bar, restaurant and kitchens during Phase I then relocated for Phase II to allow strip-out of the desk area, offices and gymnasium. Temporary hoardings were erected and clad in a separate acoustic screen to sound-proof the reception area during Phase I.
