THE PROBLEM The crane hydraulic oil was contaminated with water well above its saturation, giving the oil a milky color. Water was severely affecting crane performance. In winter months water was freezing in hydraulic lines. THE CMS SOLUTION A stand-alone pilot system was sent out and allowed to run for roughly 2 weeks. The water loading in the 50 gallon reservoir was periodically measured using the calcium hydride method. THE OUTCOME By the end of the 2 week period the water loading was reduced to 40 ppm or about 25% of saturation. Customer was not forced to change
