CASE STUDY Costa Rica: Buoy System Overview The existing port of Limon was constructed over 30 years ago. With the increase of import and export activi- ties in Costa Rica and Latin America in general, a new, up-to-date container port needed to be constructed to handle the steady stream of vessel traffic in and out of the country. In parallel to all the pre- and present construc- tion involved—dredging, seawall manufacturing, perma- nent pier support—all environmental conditions must be monitored, both terrestrial and marine related. Coastal erosion and offshore metocean parameters were required to be measured during the construction phase of the project and began in the Spring of 2016, for a duration of three years.
