The challenge was to: ? Increase existing scrubland ? Enhance mature developing woodland by extending its 'edge' ? Create valuable areas between the wooded and meadow habitats. The teams planted over 500 young tree saplings, providing an important new habitat to support birds, small mammals and insects. Fryston Country Trails, in Yorkshire, once a coal mining site, is now an attractive 85 hectare community meadow and woodland.
