Company profile When the company now known as City Furniture first opened its doors for business in 1971, it was called Waterbed City and specialized in one product – you guessed it: waterbeds. As that product fell out of fashion, founder Kevin Koenig decided to expand the business to sell all types of furniture, opening the first City Furniture in North Miami, Florida, in 1994. The retailer took off after the rebrand and by 2001 grew to the point where it needed a 1-million square-foot distribution center in South Florida.
