Conservation of Oxford medieval pavement ... Project overview During the initial stages of the construction of the new Westgate Oxford shopping centre, excavations revealed extensive remains of the medieval Greyfriars friary (AD 1244-1538), including a decorative tile pavement which formed a corner of the cloister. The tiles were discovered by Oxford Archaeology during the award-winning archaeological project. With the help of a grant from Historic England, Landsec and BDP architects decided to use the remains of the pavement to create an architectural tiling display for the new shopping centre.
