CMIT Solutions of Metrolina, a U.S. managed security services provider with a broader CMIT network of 900+ leaders and technical staff, needed centralized endpoint protection to defend SMB customers from rising ransomware threats. It deployed SonicWall Capture Client across customer sites, including for a longtime client with nine locations, 150 endpoints, 15 servers, and a stack of SonicWall TZ Series NGFWs and remote access appliances. In May 2021, a ransomware campaign launched 4,021 attacks against 162 endpoints and servers after a user opened a malicious Excel attachment, but Capture Client stopped and removed the ransomware and related hack tools, and the response team contained spread by disconnecting endpoints and dropping VPN tunnels.
