Challenge CHEP successfully delivered its budget and forecast information using a combination of in house developed software and spreadsheets. The basis of this information was derived from the CHEP SAP ERP system, fed to these bespoke systems, analysed and delivered to management for decision making and reporting. The system, being of a bespoke nature, required significant in house expertise to operate and maintain and was felt to be difficult to alter in order to accommodate changing needs. To facilitate the ever-increasing need for more comprehensive budgets and forecasts, the existing system swelled to a position making it unwieldy and slow to respond. Not only was a need for more information required, but the speed and level of resources to derive it needed to be reduced.
