CEGB Research Centre's Issue - Solution - Custom FEP Fabrications Background The Research Centre of the Central Electricity Generating Board based in Leatherhead in Surrey had been tasked to investigate the ongoing effects of global warming. Problem In order to do this, tests needed to be carried out on a defined volume of air which could not be influenced by the containing material. In addition, it was vital that UV rays could be allowed to pass through and that lasers could pass through without deviation. Solution FEP allows 97% of UVA and UVB light to pass through it. Laser light will pass through FEP without any deviation. So the choice of the containing material was clear. The challenge was to create a defined space which could encapsulate a given volume of air.
