Introduction Cayeli Bakir Isletmeleri (CBI) is an underground copper and zinc mine located on the Black Sea coast of north-eastern Turkey, 10km inland from the coastal city of Cayeli in the Rize district. Opened in 1994, the mine is expected to continue operating until at least 2018. CBI is owned by Inmet Mining Ltd., a Canadian-based mining company with operations in Turkey, Spain and Finland. CBI produces three types of concentrates: copper concentrate, copper and zinc bulk concentrate, and zinc concentrate. These concentrates are sold to a number of international and domestic smelters and traders.
