CASE STUDY BERTHING FOR NARROW BOATS AND BARGES TEWKESBURY MARINA In early 2017, Walcon Marine completed the total replacement of the pontoons and piles in Basin number 2 at Tewkesbury Marina on the River Avon in Gloucestershire, England. This project included a redesign of the marina to allow the effi cient accommodation of the narrowboats and the wide- beam barges that are popular on the river. For the new marina, Walcon retained the basic layout of the original, with four piers extending out from a walkway running along the north-western edge of the basin. However, for both sides of the south-western pier and on a single side of the pier next to it, Walcon specifi ed a total of 17, extra-long fi nger pontoons mounted at an angle of 45°.
