Bentley Park, Doncaster opened in 1923, having been created by the Bentley Miners Welfare Fund. The coal mines in the town are now closed, but the park continues to be a focus for the town and a hub of community activities. Many of these activities take place in and around the Bentley Pavilion, a beautiful community hall which is located in the heart of the park. The award of a £2.5m HLF 'Parks for People' grant has enabled the pavilion to be restored to its former glory, along with the reintroduction of a park bandstand, refurbishment of park entrances and railings, new play equipment, improvements to footpaths and the restoration of the lily pond.
