Babil Province Water and Sewerage Master Plan | Iraq Located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, Iraq’s Babil province was the site of several ancient civilizations. The province, located south of Baghdad, contains a large network of irrigation canals that were once fed by the Euphrates River. Due to its proximity to fresh water sources, this area is part of the “Fertile Crescent. ” Challenge The infrastructure of Babil province has su?ered from neglect and disrepair following years of political unrest and military con?ict. The province is at risk of disease outbreaks due to the existing unsanitary conditions. Solution Louis Berger was selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the provincial reconstruction team to help develop a Water and Sewerage Master Plan for Babil province
