Google’s Consumer Hardware CAE team worked with Altair to remove bottlenecks in drop test simulation preprocessing, which previously required up to a week of manual effort. Altair developed a custom Modeling Automation Tool (MAT) built on HyperMesh, embedding Google’s engineering standards directly into the workflow. The solution automated CAD cleanup, meshing, material assignment, PCB and solder modeling, load step generation, and solver setup. As a result, preprocessing time was reduced by approximately 70%, enabling simulations to be completed in hours instead of days. The automation improved consistency, reduced errors, and allowed engineers to iterate faster while maintaining high-quality and repeatable simulation results.
