Powder coating is a practical alternative to traditional wet painting for many industrial components: the nish is much more durable, and the process is non-toxic and environmentally safe – provided that the powder that is released when the coating is applied and the equipment is cleaned is contained, as the extremely ne coloured powder has a very small particle size. The Chemnitz-based company Alucolor GmbH, which specialises in powder coating large aluminium components, employs an e cient solution to keep its production facilities clean. The company coats aluminium components and sections up to 7.60 metres in length. The ovens and conveyors are correspondingly large, as are the workshops. As these large components are often coated in small batches, frequent colour changes are necessary
