Altair Enables Dramatic Reductions in Component Weight

Pages 2 Pages

The U.S. Army Ground Vehicle Systems Center focused on increasing vehicle payload capacity by reducing component weight without compromising durability or mission readiness. Engineers applied topology optimization and additive manufacturing to redesign key vehicle components such as brackets and structural supports. Using Altair Inspire and integrated simulation workflows, the team identified optimal load paths and consolidated multi-part assemblies into fewer components. The redesigned parts achieved mass reductions of up to 83%, saving more than 37 pounds across selected components. The approach accelerated development, supported in-house skill building, and created a scalable framework for future lightweighting initiatives across military vehicle platforms.
