CASE STUDIES SUSTAINABILITY Alstom Corporation Power Generation Turbine Balancing Facility Chattanooga, TN Lizardos designed the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and process piping system for the world’s largest power turbine generator balancing facility. The facility is capable of balancing a 180 megawatt (MW) power plant turbine generator. The facility consists of a 33 foot diameter x 90 foot long blast bunker constructed with 11 foot thick reinforced concrete walls. The bunker is surrounded by a high bay service facility housing motors, ancillary equipment and systems and control room. The turbine is overspun via a 10,000 horsepower (Hp) motor at 3,150V and drive train. Lizardos designed the power for the facility including 10 MVA stepdown transformer (13.2kV to 3.5kV)
