In addition to horse racing, the venue boasts many event and function spaces, including a large car park that doubles as a host-area for big events including the annual Gold Coast Show. In the past, illuminating an area of this size would require high-wattage HID flood lights which consume large amounts of energy and require regular maintenance. Having close residential streets also meant the lighting system would need to have precise control to avoid spilling light into neighbouring properties.
