The project included milling six inches of existing runway asphalt and overlaying with 18 inches of concrete with Meta Pave Forms. The runway is being paved with concrete instead of less-durable asphalt and widened to accommodate today’s bigger planes. At 14,572 feet, this is one of the longest runways in the world and the most used runway at JFK. Also, it’s a backup landing spot for the space shuttle.
